Philosophy

Welcome to my “PHILOSOPHY” page! Here I will be talking about the philosophy behind public health and public health careers!

Through my public health major, I am hoping to become an occupational therapist. I love helping and meeting new people, which is why I feel working in public health will be very rewarding. Currently, I am working hard to get the best grades possible to help me meet my goal of going to graduate’s school after earning a bachelor’s degree. My goal is to make the dean’s list each semester, so that I can give myself the chance to choose the graduate’s school that will make me the most successful in achieving my dream!

In the topic of public health, there is a wide range of concepts. One example is the public health concept of food safety. Every restaurant must follow certain guidelines in order to stay in business. There is a health inspector who will inspect the kitchen for rodents, bugs, sanitization, and many more rules that must be followed in order to prevent food poisoning. Another concept is occupational health. This concerns the health of employees when they work. Guidelines for this concept depends on the type of job, for example a construction worker must wear a hard hat, and gloves to prevent injury. The point of this concept of public health is to prevent work- related illnesses and injuries.

In addition, there are many different careers that are available that you can get by studying Public health! One example is occupational therapy, which I what I want to go into when I graduate. Occupational therapists treat injured, ill, or disabled people by providing therapy to help people maintain skills that they need for everyday life. Another occupation is a health care administrator. This is someone who is in charge of managing health care facilities. A mental health researcher is also an interesting public health occupation. A mental health researcher works to prevent mental health conditions in a community by conduction experiments.

Another reason public health is so interesting is because technology plays a big role in it. Technology is always improving each year, which means that in the future there will be even more improvement in the public health system. This could potentially mean longer lifespans, and people living happier and healthier lives! Presently, technology plays a role in connecting the world in the means of health. In other words, we can use technology to keep track of disease that spreads in different parts of the world, and provide vaccinations to other parts of the world to prevent outbreaks. One example is the flu. We currently get our flu vaccines based upon the outbreaks that occur on the eastern part of the world.

Public health is such a diverse topic, with so many different paths for am occupation to choose from!
